Clone Builders Build Placement: How to Choose Spot, At My Feet, or Random
Clone Builders build placement uses three Location options: Choose spot, At my feet, and Random. See what each does and how to pick an open, reachable spot.
Clone Builders places every new build through the Location setting during build setup, and there are exactly three options: Choose spot places the build manually at a point you select, At my feet drops it where you are standing, and Random lets the game pick an open nearby area. Whichever you use, the same rule of thumb applies — aim for open ground away from walls and other builds so the clone workers have room to build.
When placement is chosen
Placement is selected during build setup, after you enter the prompt and before the clones begin construction. The documented flow is to write a prompt and select a location; the clones — not the player — then handle the part-by-part assembly. Every project follows the same loop: choose an idea, position the build, and monitor construction. The placement area is the element that determines where the project appears, and the recommended beginner habit is to leave open space around the build.
The three Location options
Tips
Choose spot
Place the build manually at a point you select.
At my feet
Drops the build where you are standing.
Random
The game selects an open nearby area.
Note the exact label: the third option is Random, not "Random Placement." Documented detail stops at each option's one-line behavior — how far Random searches, the exact footprint At my feet uses, and whether a confirmed placement can be repositioned afterward are not specified. If a build setup update changes the menu, recheck the option names and behavior there.
Choosing a spot manually in practice
Recorded gameplay shows what manual spot selection looks like: the player repositions the placement marker to a chosen point, confirms it, and the clone workers start construction ("Let's place it right there. Build it."). Players deliberately pick distant or separated spots for large projects — "Let's place it over there just in case it's big" and "Let's place it all the way over there so it doesn't it's not too close to the jets." One clip also captures the confirm/cancel interaction during selection ("Stop clicking the X. Bam. Right there."), consistent with the placement step requiring an explicit confirmation before building starts. The clips show the marker placement itself, not which Location option was selected.
Picking an open site
Whichever of the three options determines the point, the site itself follows the same criteria: open ground away from obstructions. Place the project where the workers can move around it — avoid tight corners, walls, and areas occupied by another build. Open placement also gives you a better camera angle when checking the finished result, and it gives the clones room to work.
Prepare the area before you activate the project. Clones need a clear working zone, and players need enough room to inspect the result; crowded placement can make it difficult to identify the correct object, reach a seat, or tell whether a collision problem comes from the build or its surroundings. That makes "clear placement area" a standing setup step — remove nearby obstructions to prevent overlapping structures.
Placement mistakes to avoid
Mistakes to avoid
- Problem
- Starting a large design without checking the footprint
- Fix
- Check how much ground the design needs and settle on an open spot before you activate the project.
- Problem
- Blocking the area where clones need to work
- Fix
- Leave open space around the build so the workers can move around it.
- Problem
- Repeating the same placement without identifying the original problem
- Fix
- Pause and diagnose the placement first — repeating the same plan in the same location may reproduce the same issue.
- Problem
- Adding more objects when the current structure already has collision issues
- Fix
- Diagnose the placement before adding anything else to the structure.
If a build floats, overlaps, or cannot be reached, pause construction and diagnose the placement first before trying the project again.
