Clone Builders Editing Tools: How the Tools/Edit HUD Button Works

How to open editing in Clone Builders: the Tools/Edit HUD button, what each neighboring control does, the crew-level changes documented mid-build, and what Saves stores.

Quick answer

Editing in Clone Builders is reached through the Tools/Edit button on the main HUD — the control documented as letting you edit parts. The HUD (Speed, Noclip, Tools/Edit, Minigames, Saves) is described while your crew works, and no second entry method such as a menu path or hotkey is documented.

  • The mid-build changes that are documented are crew-level only: Unassign or Deassign a single clone, or Deassign all, from the Crew management window.
  • Saves stores completed projects; saving in-progress edits is not part of the documented controls.

What each HUD control changes

The Tools/Edit button sits among the sandbox's standing controls, and each neighbor has a distinct documented job:

Checklist

  • Tools/Edit

The documented edit control: it lets you edit parts. Parts are named as the target, but which part properties (position, size, color, deletion, etc.) can be changed is not enumerated in the documented controls.

  • Noclip

Lets you fly through your structures.

  • Saves

Lets you store completed projects. Saving intermediate or in-progress edits is not covered by the documented controls.

  • Speed

A standing HUD control; no editing function is documented for it.

  • Minigames

A standing HUD control; no editing function is documented for it.

One boundary matters here: the part operations described in reported play — positioning, resizing, moving, and joining parts — are performed by the NPC clones while they assemble your prompt, not by the player through Tools/Edit. Likewise, what the Tools/Edit interface contains once you open it (its sub-tools or panels) is not part of the documented controls, so open the button in game to see the current options.

While your crew works: the documented mid-build changes are crew-level

For changes made while a build is running, the documented material covers crew management rather than part editing. The Crew management window shows each clone's status while work is underway — states such as CLONE 1: BUILDING — alongside a live piece counter for the model. From the same window you can manage clones mid-build: Unassign or Deassign pulls a single clone off a task, Deassign all clears the whole crew, and queued builds wait under the Queued tab until clones are free. No part-level editing action performed during construction is documented beyond the Tools/Edit button's general description.

After the build finishes: completion banner and inspection

Completion is signaled explicitly: when the model finishes, a banner appears at the top of the screen naming your creation and marking it complete. The documented post-construction activity is inspection rather than modification — walk the build's full length and check the size, entrances, platforms, and connections. Reopening or altering a finished build through Tools/Edit is not documented, and the HUD including Tools/Edit is only described in the while-your-crew-works context, so whether the button behaves the same after completion is something to check in game.

Saving edited results

Saves is documented as the store for completed projects. Whether an in-progress or post-build edit can be saved, reverted, or overwritten is not part of the documented controls, so treat Saves as the completed-project store and verify save behavior for edits in game.

HUD control names and behavior here reflect play reported as of late September 2026. Updates can rename or move HUD buttons, so if the bar looks different after a patch, recheck it in game before relying on these labels.
